Who We Are:
The mission of the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center (PEOC) is to strengthen and empower the low-wage, immigrant community in Pomona, CA and the Inland Empire. Our core work is to provide tools and resources for all immigrant workers and immigrant residents to improve their quality of life. We provide an opportunity for day laborers, household workers, street vendors, warehouse workers and other low-wage immigrant workers in the community to find safe work at a fair wage, to organize and advocate for themselves in relation to policies that impact their lives, to obtain new trades and skills that improve their quality of life, and to improve the overall conditions for all immigrant workers and immigrant residents in the IE.
To achieve these goals the PEOC engages in a variety of activities including job development, providing educational opportunities on workers’ rights and immigrant rights, leadership development, immigration document preparation and grassroots advocacy to promote or change policies that impact low-wage immigrant workers. In addition to its main site in Pomona, the PEOC organizes day laborer corners in the Inland Empire in the cities of Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Corona and Riverside. Since 2015, the PEOC has connected with household workers to develop the CLEAR program. CLEAR (Compañeras, Lideres, Emprendedoras, Aliadas, y Revolucionarias) are a group of women workers who are partners, leaders, entrepreneurs, allies, and revolutionaries in our communities and skilled in various jobs. The CLEAR program provides women from the city of Pomona and the surrounding regions access to greater job options and economic self-reliance while also providing opportunities for their growth in professional and leadership development.
Job Description
We are seeking a full-time Coordinator for our CLEAR Household Workers’ program to grow and support our household workers membership base. The program manager will take the lead in working with CLEAR to meet the goals, plans, activities, evaluations and performance of CLEAR projects and grants. Areas of focus include maintaining and strengthening partnerships with coalition partners such as CDWC (California Domestic Workers Coalition), IC4IJ (Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice), NDLON (National Day Laborer Organizing Network), and NDWA (National Domestic Workers Alliance). Areas of focus include in-house services, educational outreach, community organizing,and grassroots advocacy to advance household worker campaigns.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the PEOC Women Workers’ program to advance worker-led projects and coalition building grants
- Manage and compile data to submit program reports to the ED/Associate Director. This includes reports for educational outreach, membership growth, and grant directives.
- Work with CLEAR members to strengthen the CLEAR program infrastructure.
- Develop and connect household workers to training and capacity building opportunities to build and strengthen worker power
- Lead grassroots organizing with household workers to advance PEOC objectives and expand household worker membership base in the Inland Empire (San Bernardino and Riverside cities in particular)
- Conduct in-house services and support to PEOC household worker membership including but not limited to wage theft claims, employee-employer mediation, and skills training.
- Participate in community groups and coalitions around issues that benefit the lives of day laborers, household workers and other low-wage, immigrant workers.
- Conduct educational outreach for household workers in the region to advance the rights of immigrant and low-wage workers, particularly household workers.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in worker and/or community organizing
- 1 year experience in program management
- Experience with household workers and/or the immigrant community preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and economic justice.
- Familiarity with labor movement and building/construction trades sector
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekends
- Bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish
- Basic knowledge of computer operations desirable, including web design, Word Press, Photoshop, Excel, social media, and basic graphic design and others.
- Prior experience in facilitating meetings, including assemblies with workers and staff,
- Comfort level, sensitivity and cultural understanding in working in various immigrant communities, people of color, the LGBTQ community, students, and older adult workers
Salary and Benefits:
- Full-time exempt (100% time)
- $45,000 to $52,000 DOE
- Health insurance coverage, paid vacation and paid sick day policies
- Competitive salary commensurate on experience.
Work Environment
The CLEAR Coordinator will work primarily at the PEOC offices and/or remotely (due to COVID) with workers and community members. The CLEAR Coordinator will also be in the field (various Zoom calls) in connection with community organizations, participating in coalition-building opportunities and coordinating outreach with household workers. This outreach will be across the Inland Empire which will include driving throughout the region, so it is preferred that a suitable candidate be in possession of a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
